Konga Yirgacheffe is back! This is not just any Konga lot. We blind-cup selected it and then vacuum sealed it in Ethiopia for extra protection on the long journey to our shores. Such care really pays off. This coffee betrays no age (woodiness); it has a delicately penetrating candy lemon-with-ginger aroma infused with light floral peach. It is very lightly roasted to subtly frame a fine black tea-like acidity which marvelously releases Konga's complex aromas and coats the mouth like a veneer of fine syrup. This Konga, taken black with no milk or sweetener, pairs ecstatically with dark chocolate. The Konga Cooperative has 1683 farmers of which 133 are female heads of family. The average size of a farm is 1.25 acres on which coffee and various foods for the local market are grown. Yirgacheffe is amazingly lush with vegetation. The coffee is grown at over 6,000 feet in altitude. This Konga also has that lush full-bodied apricot core with exceptionally pronounced clarity and sweetness. Yirgacheffe is one of the great aromatic coffees of the world. It is often used in the finest Italian espresso blends, such as Illy, to add a critical floral element. The scientist- quality coffee pioneer Ernesto Illy (Illy Coffee) stated at the SCAA Conference in Boston, 2003 that the coffee of this region shared an aromatic component found in Darjeeling tea and Chanel #5.
